The morning started with the usual annoying sound of Blare echoing throughout every Pod in Annalyera, ensuring its citizens were awake. Iris rolled over and pressed her pillow over her head. “Come on Iris!” the familiar voice of Tani squealed in her ear. “Am I really going to have to force you out of bed every morning?” Iris looked up and blinked as the smiling face of her friend came into focus.

Chapter 1
Iris rolled over and pulled her pillow over her head in an attempt to block out the sound of the blaring alarm that poured from the small speaker in the ceiling. However, her attempt at sleep was futile and she soon felt someone poking her side. “Wake up Iris! You know you can’t sleep through Blare,” her friend and roommate Tani said, using their nickname for the obnoxious alarm. Iris groaned and pulled herself up, pushing her long curly brown hair out of her face and climbing down the metal ladder of their bunk bed.
